For some weird reason I chose ideas that required heat today. But, no one got hurt:) The next thing we made were popcorn balls. We used Kims recipe:
Popcorn Balls
3/4 c. light corn syrup
1/4 c. margarine
2 tsp cold water
2 5/8 c. powdered sugar
1 c. marshmallows
5 quarts plain popped popcorn (I used three bags of your basic buttered microwave popcorn, and it turned out fine) (*Make sure you get unpopped kernals out)
In saucepan over medium heat, combine the corn syrup, margarine, cold water, powdered sugar and marshmallows. Heat and stir until the mixture comes to a boil and marshmallows are incorporated. (I then added a few drops of food coloring--b/c I'm a health nut:)) Carefullly combine the hot mixture with the popcorn, coating each kernel.Grease hands with vegetable shortening and quickly shape the coated popcorn into balls before it cools. Wrap with cellophane or plastic wrap and store at room temp.
The Rooster is always excited when we pop popcorn.
Don't worry Big Dog is not working with hot popcorn balls. These were already cooled. He was just pretending.
Now we are going to watch cartoons:)
